Over the last two decades, the venue has become one of Miami’s most recognizable lifestyle destinations, blending music, luxury dining, beach culture, nightlife, and day parties into one experience right on the sand of South Beach.

Now, after years of legal battles and uncertainty surrounding the future of the property, Nikki Beach has officially received a temporary extension before shutting down.

The legendary Miami Beach venue will remain open until August 6, 2027 under a settlement finalized this week between the City of Miami Beach, Nikki Beach ownership, and Boucher Brothers, the company preparing to take over the site.

What Is Nikki Beach?

Located at 1 Ocean Drive on the southern tip of Miami Beach, Nikki Beach helped define the modern luxury beach club experience long before similar venues started appearing around the world.

The venue became famous for combining live DJs, electronic music, oceanfront dining, cocktails, cabanas, and upscale beach culture into a single destination. Over the years, Nikki Beach grew into an international brand with locations across Europe, Dubai, and other major travel destinations.

The venue’s roots go back to the late 1980s when it originally operated as Penrod’s Beach Club. In 1998, the venue transformed into Nikki Café in honor of Nicole Penrod, the daughter of founder Jack Penrod, who tragically passed away at 18 years old. The concept later evolved into the global Nikki Beach brand known today.

Why Is Nikki Beach Closing?

The site sits on city-owned land, and Nikki Beach’s lease was originally set to expire this year.

After a long legal dispute involving bidding rights and redevelopment plans, the city reached a settlement that gives Nikki Beach one final 15-month extension while allowing redevelopment plans to move forward afterward.

Boucher Brothers and Major Food Group, the hospitality company behind restaurants like Carbone, plan to completely transform the property into a new luxury beachfront destination featuring multiple restaurants, beach amenities, and redesigned public spaces.

Despite the closure news, Nikki Beach owner Lucia Penrod says the extension gives the company time to properly celebrate the venue’s legacy.

“We have another 15 months to create unforgettable memories with our guests, honor our incredible team, and close this chapter with the spirit and passion that have defined Nikki Beach from the very beginning,” she said in a statement.

For longtime Miami locals, travelers, and dance music fans, the announcement feels bittersweet.
