Josh Wink, Christopher Coe, and Glasgow cult figure Tony Morris have joined forces on a new three-track release, Probe Your Mind (feat. Tony Morris), out now via Coe’s Awesome Soundwave label.

The release comes with two main mixes — ‘Probe Your Mind (Wink’s Mind)‘ and ‘Probe Your Mind (Coe’s Mind)‘ — plus a dub from Wink. Both mixes build on a shared sonic foundation of deep basslines, tribal drums, and Wink’s signature melodic acid textures, while Morris’s dark spoken-word monologue gives the track a surreal narrative quality that cuts through the dancefloor function. Wink’s version leans into immediacy, anchored by a melodic breakdown. Coe’s take goes darker and rawer, though the acid influence runs through both.

Morris’s contribution here is the wildcard that makes the track stand out. The 74-year-old Glasgow native only began pursuing creative work in his late sixties — after careers as a bookkeeper and taxi driver — and has since become one of the more unlikely figures to gain traction in underground electronic music. He’s picked up a Scottish Alternative Music Award for Best Electronic Act, released on Optimo Music, and performed everywhere from DIY spaces to London’s EartH. His regular broadcasts on Clyde Built Radio have made him a fixture of Glasgow’s creative scene, and his mutant cabaret aesthetic has earned him recognition well beyond Scotland.

Philadelphia-born Wink needs little introduction in this context. Over three-plus decades, he’s remained a defining presence in techno, house, and acid — his imprint Ovum Recordings is now more than 28 years deep and still a touchstone for underground electronic music. His remix work spans Radiohead, Moby, Sting, Depeche Mode, Radio Slave, and Dave Clarke, among others.

Christopher Coe, meanwhile, runs Awesome Soundwave and has built the label into a platform for forward-thinking electronic music through his work as a live techno performer and producer.

Together, the three make for an unlikely but coherent combination — the kind of collaboration that only really makes sense when you hear how Morris’s Byron-esque delivery lands over Wink and Coe’s production. It’s hypnotic in the way good acid tracks tend to be, but the spoken-word element gives it something extra to chew on.
