After recently donating $30,000 to help rescue and care for 27 cats and kittens to the Toronto Humane Society, the Canadian producer has announced that one of those cats will be joining his own family. The new addition marks the fourth feline companion for Joel Zimmerman, who has long been known for his love of cats and animal welfare.

According to Billboard, the producer’s latest adoption comes just weeks after the Humane Society of Oakville, Milton & Halton issued an urgent appeal for help after rescuing 27 cats from a single household. The animals required medical treatment, vaccinations, spaying and neutering, microchipping, and ongoing care before becoming eligible for adoption.

Zimmerman responded to the shelter’s plea with a simple message: “I got you.”

His $30,000 donation covered the rescue effort, but the story didn’t end there. The longtime cat lover also enlisted fans to help name the cats through his Patreon community and used his platform to bring attention to the shelter and encourage adoptions.

Now, in honor of Adopt a Cat Month, deadmau5has decided to provide one of the rescued felines with a permanent home of its own. The producer already shares his life with three rescue cats and has frequently paid tribute to his beloved pets throughout his career. His late cat Meowingtons famously inspired the Meowingtons album era and even served as the inspiration behind the rhythm-based game Meowingtons Simulator.

The Humane Society of Oakville, Milton & Halton praised Zimmerman not only for his financial support but also for the awareness he brought to animal welfare efforts. Shelter officials noted that his contribution helped shine a spotlight on the work that rescue organizations perform every day.

While deadmau5may be best known for shaping electronic music over the last two decades, his latest act of generosity serves as a reminder that sometimes the most meaningful headlines happen away from the stage.
