Sony is once again pushing wearable technology into unusual territory with the launch of the new Reon Pocket Pro Plus. The updated device works as a personal cooling system designed to sit behind the user’s neck and underneath clothing. While the idea may sound futuristic, Sony has actually been developing this product line since 2019, and the newest version arrives with several important upgrades.

Unlike a traditional fan, the Reon Pocket Pro Plus uses a cooled metal plate that touches the skin directly. The system relies on thermoelectric cooling technology, also known as the Peltier effect, which allows the device to create a cooling sensation without blasting air constantly. Sony says the new version can cool more efficiently thanks to a redesigned algorithm and internal improvements.

According to Sony, the latest model delivers around 20% stronger cooling performance than the previous version. The cooling plate itself can now reach temperatures about two degrees Celsius lower than before. These changes are meant to help users stay comfortable during hot commutes, outdoor activities, or crowded summer environments.

Sony also focused heavily on comfort and stability this time around. The company redesigned the flexible neck support, so the device stays in place more securely while moving around. Reports claim the updated frame improves stability by roughly 40%, making it easier to wear discreetly under shirts or jackets without shifting constantly.

Sony is also introducing a new accessory called the Reon Pocket Tag 2. The small external sensor tracks surrounding temperature and humidity levels, allowing the wearable cooler to automatically adjust performance depending on environmental conditions. The second-generation sensor is smaller and easier to carry than previous versions.

Battery life remains one of the strongest selling points of the device. Sony claims the Reon Pocket Pro Plus can operate for up to 10 hours under certain cooling settings. Users can also manage settings manually through a companion smartphone app, although the device still works independently without requiring constant phone interaction.

Wearable cooling technology has slowly become more popular in recent years, especially in countries facing increasingly intense summer temperatures. Several companies have experimented with cooling jackets, wearable fans, and thermoelectric systems as global heat waves continue becoming more common. Sony’s Reon lineup has remained one of the better-known consumer-focused examples of this category.
