Former professional League of Legends jungler William ‘Meteos‘ Hartman has joined Riot Games’ Gameplay Analysis Team.

Sharing the update on social media, the former Cloud9 player confirmed that his role involves playtesting upcoming changes and providing feedback on gameplay adjustments before they go live.

In his post, Meteos wrote, “Today was my first day on the Gameplay Analysis Team at Riot. I will be playtesting and giving feedback for new changes coming to League.”

He added that he looks forward to learning from the talented designers within the company.

Meteos’ Journey

Meteos is best known for his time as a professional League of Legends jungler, particularly with Cloud9, where he served as the team’s starting jungler during the organisation’s early dominance in the LCS.

After first picking up the game in Season 2 as an AD Carry (ADC), he transitioned to the jungle role in April 2012. His rapid improvement earned him a spot on Cloud9 in early 2013.

Notably, he won two NA LCS titles with Cloud9 in the 2013 Summer Split and the 2014 Spring Split. Following his tenure with Cloud9, Metros has spells with the likes of Phoenix1, 100 Thieves, and OpTic Gaming.

After stepping away from professional play around 2020, Meteos remained active through streaming, co-streaming, and as an on-screen personality for the LCS. This included rejoining Cloud9 in 2023 as a content creator and streamer.

What is the Gameplay Analysis Team?

The Gameplay Analysis Team at Riot Games is a group within the development structure that works with designers and developers to test, evaluate, and analyse how new content will perform before it goes live.

The team conducts early playtesting, theorycrafting, and detailed analysis to understand how players might use upcoming changes. This spans changes to champions, items, systems, or balance tweaks, and how these adjustments could impact the game as a whole.

The Gameplay Analysis Team’s work helps identify potential issues and give feedback that shapes gameplay decisions during development rather than after release.

Rather than simply ‘playing the game’, members combine data insight, simulations, and high‑skill playtesting to anticipate risks and outcomes of new mechanics, offering Riot Games’ designers a practical view of what might happen once content reaches players.
