Shyvana rework comes to League of Legends in Patch 26.6

After years have passed since Riot Games signalled its wish to rework Shyvana, the Half-dragon returns with major gameplay changes and updated visuals.
Plans for Shyvana’s rework were in place since Riot acknowledged that she was not fully delivering on her core theme and fantasy back in 2022. The results of this shift have now officially been revealed during the Demacia season showcase, with confirmation that she will land in the League of Legends client in Patch 26.6. The rework adjusts her abilities and playstyle, refreshes her in-game model and artwork, and expands her lore in Runeterra, while keeping all of her existing skins available.
Back in 2022, Riot Games held a VGU poll to decide which older champion needed a full update. Skarner won the vote, but Shyvana finished a very close second. At the time, Riot Games admitted she was part of some champions not ‘fully delivering on their thematic promise’. When it came to Shyvana’s gameplay, Riot had said it wanted her dragon form to feel more powerful and clearly different from her human form — four years later, Riot Games seems to have delivered on that promise.
Shyvana Rework Explained
According to Riot, the team that worked on the Half-dragon rework was aided by Shyvana mains to preserve what players loved about her design and character while also improving the areas that felt outdated. The goal was to modernise her without removing what made her unique.
Before looking at all her new abilities, it’s important to check on Shyvana’s new ultimate. With the new update, Dragon’s Descent still transforms Shyvana into her Dragon Form, but now it also fears enemies along her path and makes her basic abilities stronger. Shyvana’s new Passive, Scalemail, is the only ability not impacted by her ultimate. It now gives Shyvana defensive stacks when she secures takedowns on champions and large monsters.

Inferno Aegis, her W, grants a shield and movement speed before exploding around her. The explosion heals her if it hits enemy champions or monsters when she is in her Dragon Form. Her E, Molten Burst, launches a fireball that slows enemies, and in Dragon Form, it passes through targets and leaves a burning trail behind.
Compared to before, Shyvana still plays as a scaling jungle pick built around her Dragon Form spike, but her power now feels more tied to ability use than raw stats. AP builds should remain viable, especially with the impact of her empowered E, while her new sustain and defensive stacks also support bruiser options.
Players can still farm and scale like before, but the added fear of her ult and the recast mechanics mean better timing will be key to a stronger Shyvana.
Can the New Shyvana Shape Esports?
As Shyvana won’t be available for First Stand (the event will be played on Patch 26.5), it’s unlikely fans will see her in pro play any time soon. However, she could make a few appearances in the Spring Splits of major regions shortly after Patch 26.6 goes live — especially if Fearless Draft and Riot’s changes to AP junglers push her into the meta.
In Tier 1 competitions, jungle picks must offer reliable engage, strong teamfighting, or clear objective control. The added fear of Shyvana’s ultimate and the extra sustain in Dragon Form could make her more viable than before. That said, balance numbers after her launch will decide if she becomes a priority pick or stays situational.
Solo queue is a different environment, especially at lower ranks, where scaling and raw damage are often rewarded more than perfect coordination. If her Dragon Form delivers high burst and strong duelling power, she could quickly become popular in Solo queue, even if pros use her scarcely.
