House music legend Kathy Brown is back with a powerful statement. The celebrated vocalist has teamed up with German hitmaker Mousse T. and Revival House Project for ‘I’m Gonna Make It‘, a tune which marks her triumphant return to the studio after a challenging health situation.

For Kathy, an iconic vocalist lending her voice to countless pillars of the genre, ‘I’m Gonna Make It’ is taken really literally, as it represents her first major project since being diagnosed with stage four cancer in 2023. “At this point in my life and career, what matters to me most when it comes to the music projects that I’m a part of is authenticity“, she explains. “It’s all about working and creating with people that I love and trust, and delivering a message that resonates with my own personal journey. So to make this record which is all about survival, with my Revival family and Mousse T., was fulfilling on every level“.

‘I’m Gonna Make It’

This song is truly happy. The piano stabs, the chords, the progression, everything is built in such a way that it really exudes happiness. And what’s perhaps even more wholesome, is the fact that the instrumental is arranged in such a way that Kathy’s thick and powerful voice takes centre stage whenever the time comes. “I’m gonna make it, make it baby” is a line repeated so much throughout the song that it’s able to uplift you and motivate you even in the darkest days. The power of music, ay?!

Remixes

The package gets the full treatment with remixes from Mark Dedross and Groove P, both just out of the oven (Friday). These additional paths expand the sound, the reach, and the legacy of the original track to cover the entire House spectrum. While Mark’s take cleverly nods to the 70s in a Disco-infused angle, Groove P’s leans towards the more soulful, hypnotic and joyful side.

But beyond the infectious groove and vocal delivery, ‘I’m Gonna Make It’ carries a deeper message of resilience — one which feels especially potent coming from Kathy Brown’s personal journey. She, for all we know, did make it.
